Web Hosting Problems When Choosing Inexperienced Service Providers

>> Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Unlimited bandwidth, unlimited disk space, unlimited email, 24x7 customer support, blah...blah… These are some of the common promises offered by web hosting companies to lure you. But what happens when it comes to delivering these promises? Almost, all of them fail to walk the talk! Here are some common problems faced by web owners who do not use discretion when choosing web hosting companies.

Slow servers are probably the biggest problem faced by web owners. A page takes ages to upload thereby hampering with customer satisfaction. While they work fine on a normal day, even the slightest hint of traffic is enough to send the servers into a tizzy. As an online entrepreneur, you cannot afford to lose precious time worrying about slow servers. Another common problem faced by web owners is poor or even lack of technical support. When you call tech support in an emergency, you are almost always routed through a complicated IVR that does its best to avoid contact with a human. And finally, when you manage to speak to a human being, the person at the other end has no idea about your problem or is using you as a guinea pig to learn the trade!

The other common grouse is poor response to tickets. Sometimes, it may take even a week to respond to tickets, and even they respond it is hardly to the web owner’s satisfaction. I once had a horrible experience where the technical support staff closed the ticket even without asking for my opinion, because it was a part of her SLA to close tickets within 48 hours!

It is a myth that price has a lot to do with the quality of service delivered. There are so many cheap domain hosting companies that offer unparalleled support; your job is to look for the right service provider!
