How to Choose a Good and Low Cost Web Hosting Company

>> Thursday, March 14, 2013

The problem in evaluating a web hosting company is that no two people have exactly the same experience. Thus, opinions are bound to differ! But how does one choose a good yet cheap hosting and domain provider? A common complaint of most web owners is less than efficient customer service. When servers are down and complaints are high, staff response is often poor. There’s also the problem of failed promises. The company may have promised unlimited bandwidth and unlimited disk space, but performance is often zilch. Some important features of a good service provider include:

Excellent customer support: A company that values its customers shall make sure that it delivers its promises. Claims that cannot be fulfilled shall not be made- as simple as that! Does the customer support staff take pains to explain everything in detail, including aspects that shall not be included? Nothing should be left to the client to be assumed. Sometimes companies do not explain things in detail, and later on, when a problem arises, someone from the other end of the phone says, ‘Oh! But you should have known about it’. Are you kept on hold for a long time? Does the support staff on online chat appear to be knowledgeable? Things like these shall help you to decide on the right company.

An easy to use and efficient interface: Are you comfortable using the company’s online management system? Are interfaces like dashboard, control panel, etc. user friendly? If they are, the Company probably values its customer’s time and shall be efficient. Small changes such as adding or changing something shouldn’t be a bother and you should be able to do it without calling customer service.

Some other features to look for include bandwidth and disk space etc. While most companies promise unlimited bandwidth and disk space, do they really provide this? Ask for specifics before signing up.
